Why is Gareth Bale skipping the Olympics

As an American I’m not too familiar with the ins and outs of the Premiere Soccer league. See, what I did. I used soccer instead of football.

Very frustrating for non-Americans, I assume.

Gareth Bale is a Welsh soccer player who has had an interesting career. One of the funnier things is on his weakness section of ESPN:

Looks so unschooled in the arts of defending that he now plays predominantly as a left winger.

Gareth Ball Pulling Out

Why is Gareth Bale skipping the Olympics photoBeing Welsh, his desire to play on the England team for the Olympics caused some controversy.  Well, no one has to worry about that anymore. Bale has pulled out of the Olympics due to a back injury suffered while training.

Did Gareth Chicken Out

So, did he chicken out and point to a non-specific back injury? I don’t know, but he could have for the following reasons:

He might not have made the cut – The final team is being ‘twhittled down and he might not have been on it. Beckham was left off the team, so it isn’t hard to imagine Gareth being dropped.

His new contract – He just signed a new contract, so there might have been discussions related to not playing in the Olympics for fear of injury or perception.

His immaturity – He’s 22. Enough said.

The injury report is very non-specific, so there is no timetable for when he will return nor was any detail given as to how the injury happened.
